How to Use Wikipedia Basics
Here are a few explanations about basic use of Wikipedia features, such as searching a page, getting the page translated (if available), downloading pages as PDF files, and using Wikipedia offline (without internet access).
- Search for a Page in your Language
- Download a Page as a PDF file
- Get the Same Page in Your own Language
- Using Wikipedia Offline (without internet access)
1. Search for a Page in your Language
From the main
https://wikipedia.org homepage, you can choose your preferred language, and then launch a search for the page.
2. Download a Page as a PDF file
From the left menu, you can have a PDF version for the page automatically generated and available for download.
Note that another link in the left menu allows to create books with several pages in chapters and a table of contents.
3. Get the Same Page in Your own Language
If the current page (for example in English) is available in your own language (for example Spanish), then by clicking on the link for your language on the left menu, you can get the corresponding page in your language.
Note that the page you get is not an automatically translated version of the original page (for example in English), but another page which was written and edited by Wikipedia contributors directly in your language.
4. Using Wikipedia Offline (without internet access)
If you want to take a copy of Wikipedia to study and use later without internet access, there are a number of solutions, to put it on your device (hard or SD) memory space, or on a memory stick, or on a CD/DVD.
This use of Wikipedia without internet access is called offline use.
